2016

The service in charge of roads (Direction interdépartementale des routes, or DIR - Méditerranée) moves to a new facility in La Joliette. The 4,000m2 building stays empty. Owned by the French State, the site is meant to be sold to the City of Marseille.

2018

Whilst the negotiation between the State and the City are (slowly) progressing for the purchase of the 16 Rue Bernard-du-bois, the State alongside several partners reaches out to Yes We Camp and Plateau Urbain to organise a meanwhile project meant to last until 2021, when the purchase is meant to be completed.

2019

In January, Coco Velten opens and the first residents move in. The project is a mix of office spaces for non-profits and young creative practices (design, architecture, sound, film and fine arts). It also offers emergency housing to individuals and families without a home. Coco is meant to open from 2019 until 2021.

2021

The project is meant to be completed in 2021. But there's already talks of an extension...
